Major Mamadou B. Sylla is a native of Dakar, Senegal. He was commissioned into the Engineer Corps through Officer Candidate School in 2010.
MAJ Sylla’s military career has spanned various significant roles and responsibilities. Prior to his commission, he served as a paralegal specialist in diverse operational environments. As an officer, he served as Assistant S4, Assistant S3, Platoon Leader and Executive Officer in 615 th Horizontal Construction Company, 52 nd Engineer Battalion, Fort Carson, Colorado, then Engineer Plans Officer, Eighth US Army, Seoul, Korea and Commander of Theater Air Naval Ground Operations (TANGO) Security Force, STB, USFK, Korea. Following command, he served as a Theater Security Cooperation planner and Plans Branch Chief with U.S. Army Southern European Task Force, Africa (SETAF-AF), Vicenza, Italy.
MAJ Sylla’s educational accomplishments include a Bachelor’s degree in Business Management and Economic Sciences from the University of Dakar, Senegal and a Master’s degree in Geological Engineering, along with a Military Geological Engineering Certificate from Missouri University of Science and Technology.
Throughout his service, MAJ Sylla has been recognized with numerous awards and decorations, including Meritorious Service Medal (2 Oak Leaf Clusters), Army Commendation Medal (5 Oak Leaf Clusters), Joint Service Achievement Medal, Army Achievement Medal (5 Oak Leaf Clusters), Good Conduct Medal (3), National Defense Service Ribbon, Iraqi Campaign Medal (2), Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, NCO Professional Development Ribbon (3), Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Service Ribbon (5), Combat Action Badge.
MAJ Sylla’s military career, educational achievements, and personal life present a portrait of a dedicated leader committed to both his family and his duties as an officer in the U.S. Army. MAJ Sylla and his wife Marema are proud parents to one son and two daughters. He is currently serving as a Professor of Practice of Military Science and Executive Officer for the Blue Jay Battalion at the University of Maryland Baltimore College (UMBC) and The Johns Hopkins University (JHU).

Sergeant First Class Zachery Yeager is from Robbinsville, NC. He enlisted in the United States Army on June 20th, 2006.
